Patch: Community Patch (October 2026)
🏰 The Big Stuff
Augmental Puzzles now runs on its own puzzle server. Your saves, the daily puzzle and the leaderboards all live in one place we look after ourselves, the same on every headset.
The first time you start the patch you make your Puzzler Card: a name and a heraldry crest that follow you onto the leaderboards. If you played before, your old save comes across in one step.
It also moves your saves and sign-in off Epic Online Services and onto a server we run ourselves. This is the groundwork for everything we want to build with you next: profiles, multiplayer and more.
Nonograms get the other big change: clue colours that tell the truth. A clue number no longer greys out just because a run that long appeared somewhere in the line.
Rolling out now on Meta Quest and Steam for Windows. Steam Frame players get it as soon as the Linux build clears testing.
As always, if something feels off, tell us with the in-game feedback screen and we will take a look. A new server is a big change, so we especially want to hear if your save or your times did not come across the way you expected.
Your Puzzler Card
- Pick a name. The game offers nine name pieces and you pick three. Don’t like them? Reroll.
- Build a crest. Pick a background colour, then a back part and a front part, each with its own colour. Reroll for new parts. Everything you pick is yours to keep, and we plan to add more colours and patterns to earn and unlock later.
- Show it off. Your card shows on the leaderboards and on the save picker.
- Goodbye grid picture. The old grid profile picture is gone from the pause and results screens; your crest is drawn there now.
Bringing Your Save Across
This happens once. After that the server keeps your save and the game syncs it for you.
- Your old save is its own ball. If you played before this patch, your old save shows up as a ball when the game starts. Pick it, set up your Puzzler Card, and your progress comes across to the new server.
- One import, first slot. The import is for your first save slot. Every slot is its own player with its own card, and you can add another with the new-slot ball.
- Nothing lost offline. Your progress is kept safe while offline and sent the moment you are back online. Nothing is lost if the headset is switched off mid-save.
Online Features
- Daily puzzle from the server. Dailies now come from our server, so a fixed or replaced day reaches everyone without a game update. The daily needs you to be online; offline, the button says “Requires Online”.
- A week of dailies on Steam. Steam owners can open the last week of dailies, not just today.
- Leaderboards. Your times post as soon as you finish, and queue if you are offline. Results now show your Puzzler Card name and crest.
- Store sign-in. On Steam and Meta your store account links to your Puzzler Card during setup. After that the game signs you in with it, no extra login. If sign-in drops, the game quietly retries in the background.
Nonograms: Clue Colours
Before this patch a clue number greyed out the moment any filled run of that length showed up in its line. Fill two cells under a clue of 3 2 and the 2 went grey, even though those two cells were just as likely to be the start of the 3. One stray cell could grey out a 1. We kept falling into that trap ourselves, and asked on socials how much help the board should really give.
This is where we landed. The clues still never solve anything for you. They just stop telling you something is done when it might not be.
- 2White. No filled run of this length in the line yet.
- 2Yellow: maybe. You have a run this long, but it could still be a piece of a longer clue, or the line has more copies of this number than runs you have drawn. Yellow is a nudge to look again, not a tick.
- 2Green: pinned. This run can only be this clue. Either it is boxed in by crosses or the edge of the board at both ends, or the longer clues have no room left to hold it.
- 2Grey: line done. The filled runs in the line match the whole clue, in order.
- 2Red: something is wrong. A rule error in the line. Red wins over every other colour.
The rules it plays by
- It only reads what you have drawn. Filled cells, crosses and the edge of the board. It never looks at the answer, so a colour is never a spoiler.
- It goes by length, not position. Every copy of a number shares a colour. If a clue has two 2s, both go yellow together; it will not tell you which one your run is.
- One open cell keeps a run open. A run with an untouched cell at either end can still grow, however little room is behind it, so it stays yellow until you cross that cell off.
- Green splits the line. A green number is fixed to its run, and the clues either side of it are then checked on their own. One green can turn its neighbours green too.
An example. A row with the clue 3 2 and two filled cells in it: the 2 goes yellow, because those cells might be the start of the 3. Cross the cells either side and the 2 turns green, since a boxed-in run of two can only be the 2. Fill the 3 and the whole clue goes grey.
Nonograms: Smarter Hints
- The hard techniques. The hint system now knows Push, Every Fit and What If, so it can walk you through the big boards where the easy moves run out.
- Three new How To Play pages teach them, one technique per page.
Menus and Comfort
- How To Play. The help pages for all three games now stretch to fit, and the demos animate.
- Rebuilt pause and results screens. Lighter models, proper buttons.
- Message of the day. A new message on the title screen, which we can now change from our end without a patch.
- Sharper text. The font is sharper and smaller to download, and the missing letters on PICO are back.
- Quieter music. Music now starts at half volume by default. If you already set your own music level, we kept it.
- Smoother loading. Better use of the headset’s CPU and GPU boost when loading menus and puzzles.
- Steady on PICO. Frame synthesis is off, so the image stays steady at 72 Hz.
Fixed
- Sticky grip. A grip that sometimes would not let go after a very light squeeze now releases properly.
Known Issues
- Please update. Older versions of the game can no longer reach the server, so leaderboards, the daily and save sync will not work on them.
